    Description

Just post-Span Am War: Black-and-white 7.5" x 9.5" paper photo of wreckage from the USS Maine at
    Havana, surrounded by a cofferdam.
The temporary dam was built so the hull could be raised and repaired enough to be towed out to sea and sunk.  The ship originally sank in 1898; the damming operation was done in 1911. In 1915 her main mast was installed in Arlington National Cemetery as a memorial to those who died in the explosion.
A note penciled on the back reads, "Rare photo, terrible condition." I don't go as far as terrible, but it is a bit distressed: there are a number of creases overall and two edge tears at the bottom and a tear at the center top. There are three very small losses (marked with green arrows on detail photo).
Please Note: I ship all my photos in rigid & padded packaging to avoid damage in transit.
