His original ink notations are on the negative as shown.

This negative was converted to a positive image for this auction.
Percy Loomis Sperr (1890-1964), who was known as the "Official Photographer for the City of New York." Beginning in 1924, he combed the five boroughs, "capturing scenes of the city's people, buildings, and neighborhoods," the society reports. "He created more than 30,000 photographs, and his works comprise an amazingly detailed portrait of the city" from 1924 through the early 1940s.
