Intriguing original vintage snapshot photograph of a smiling man astride a bicycle with a Herbert Hoover/ Charles Curtis political campaign license plate, dated 1928
.
The metal license plate on the side of the bicycle reads:
Our Choice
Hoover & Curtis
We know this license plate dates from the 1928 Presidential campaign of Herbert Hoover and Charles Curtis, which they won, because the date '28 is inked on the lower right white margin of the photo and also written in pencil on the back of the photo.
Incidentally, Charles Curtis was a member of the Kaw Nation and was the first person of color to serve as Vice-President of the U.S.
The photo is sized approximately 4 3/8" wide x 3 1/8" tall, including the white margins; the photo image itself has dimensions of 4" x 2 3/4."
The photo is in very good condition, with mild wrinkling and old glue stains on the back.  Other than the penciled date of '28, the back is blank.
